Whether you're going for natural looking breasts, or obviously augmented, knowing your goals is a key part of your breast augmentation journey!
"Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible"
Who do I have to have Breast Augmentation Goals?
Most of us who've traveled this journey will admit at the beginning we thought "I just want boobs, any boobs"! But you'll learn soon enough that it's a bit more complicated than that.
It is so important to know what your goals are before you head into your first consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon!
When your plastic surgeon knows (and understands) your breast augmentation goals it gives them part of a key formula for helping you achieve those goals. It looks a bit like this:
Your existing anatomy + your breast augmentation goals = the optimal implant and surgical procedure for you
Knowing your goals, and being able to communicate them to your plastic surgeon, is like your part of the process. So, own it girl!
Kinds Of Breast Augmentation Goals
If you haven't already, check out my article on how your plastic surgeon picks the perfect breast implants for you so you know what kind of questions they'll be asking at your consultation.
In a nutshell, it's best to go prepared with the answers to the following questions:
What do you want to look like? (e.g. are you hoping for a natural or augmented look?)
To help you choose your look check out my Boobie Guides. Make sure to bring any photos with you to your consultations so you are on the same page.
How do you feel about breast implant size, feel, material (silicone or saline), placement (under or over the muscle)?
It's only two questions but it opens the door to many, many more.
It's okay to have some idea of what you want but leave the specifics up to your plastic surgeon.
Breast Implant Goals Plus Reality
So, it's good to know your goals but it's also really important to be flexible and open minded. Your plastic surgeon will own the technical side of translating your goals into what breast implant and what surgery, but they might also have to give you a reality check.
Some of your boob goals might be pie in the sky!
Everyone starts out with their own unique anatomy. You are unique. And so are your goals.
Be prepared to refine your goals (with help from your plastic surgeon)... you should be very wary of a surgeon who promises you a specific look.
If you haven't already, book an in-person consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon to explain your goals and discuss options.
By figuring out your goals you'll be deciding what will make you happy... and you've made a very important first step on the awesome path of your Boobie Journey! :)
Thoughts from Dr. Glenn DavisI used to be honored that people before surgery would say: "I trust you, just pick the implants you think are right." But with experience you learn that not everyone has the same view of what "right" looks like.
As a result, I ask the patient, using VECTRA, to pick a tight range for her implants.
I am happy to guide the process, and we have some great members of our team that help you know what different sizes mean in clothing and so on, but ultimately, the more you know about your goals, and the more you communicate your goals, the better your outcome is likely to be.
