What Will My Breasts Feel Like with Breast Implants?

Okay, so you may have a pretty good idea by now of how you want your breasts to look with breast implants... but let’s get to the next (if not most) important thing:

How will your breasts feel after getting breast implants??

Will they feel different? Harder? Softer? Firmer? Faker? (that's a word, right?) Let's talk about it!

How your breasts will feel after a breast augmentation basically comes down to three main factors:

Breast Tissue

The amount of breast tissue you start with is a major biggest driving factor into how your breasts are going to feel after getting breast implants.

To use an exaggerated example, imagine that you put a jellybean in the middle of a pair of folded socks. It's going to be pretty difficult to feel it, right? But if you replaced the jelly bean with a golf ball (no, breast implants don't feel like golf balls! :-)), it would be much more obvious.

Breast implants are the same way.

If you are already a C-cup and get breast implants, there's a lot of cushioning that someone who is an A-cup doesn't have. And when someone touches your breasts, they have a lot more cushion to get through before getting to the breast implant—if that makes sense.

Type of Breast Implant

Next up is the type of breast implant that you decide to get. And by "type" I am specifically referring to whether or not the breast implant is filling with saline or silicone.

At the time I'm writing this article, there are 4 basic types of breast implants that will make your breasts feel one way or another. My goal here is going to be to oversimplify things in order to give you enough information to know what to ask your plastic surgeon about.

You will have the opportunity to feel the different types of breast implants during your consultation, so here's what you can expect in terms of (for the most part) what feels most and least like natural breast tissue:

  • Silicone Gel Breast Implants – Feels identical to natural breast tissue

  • The IDEAL Saline Breast Implant – Feels close to natural breast tissue

  • Traditional Saline Breast Implants – Doesn't really feel like natural breast tissue

  • Highly Cohesive Silicone Breast Implants – Feels least like natural breast tissue

If you didn't know, I have traditional saline breast implants, and I really like the increased firmness of them. I honestly don't like how watery that natural breast tissue is, so I really like them.

But that's just me! There's no wrong answer here.

How Big Your Breast Implants Are

And finally, the size of your breast implants are going to impact how your boobs end up feeling.

Think about it like this... If you put a golf ball under one of the pillows on your couch and sit on it, you aren't going to notice much difference. But if you put a bowling ball under the same cushion, you're going to notice a huge difference!

Of course, there are other factors that contribute to how your boobs will feel after getting breast implants such as different placement options, but we covered 90% of it here.

And whatever you do, don't freak out about this. I can assure you that this is enough information for you to carry into your consultation to finish the conversation with your plastic surgeon. :-)

Thoughts from Dr. Glenn Davis

Softness is one of the five key features of breast aesthetics that I discuss in a consultation for breast augmentation.

While we can't change the amount of breast tissue that you're starting with, we can control the type and size of the implants, both of which are important factors in how your breasts will ultimately feel after augmentation.
