Breast Augmentation Myths Debunked

breast implant myths

There is a load of misinformation out there (online and in the real world) about breast implants. It's enough to furrow your brow!

The obvious breast augmentation myths you'll have heard before: people will be able to tell you’ve got breast implants, they’ll look fake, they won’t feel real (all untrue)!

Let's talk about debunking some of the more unusual myths.

1. You'll Never Sleep On Your Stomach with Breast Implants

This is completely false! Unless you went pretty big and are incapable of getting comfortable on your stomach is one thing... but not being able to lay on your stomach completely is another.

I overheard a conversation once where a group of gals (and guys) were talking about breast implants. A guy in the group came out with this exact clanger!

Returning to sleeping on your front (hands up here... I’m definitely a stomach sleeper) takes some time as you recover from your breast augmentation.

But, losing the ability to do something you did before... don’t think so! Once healing has taken place be reassured that you’ll be able to do all of your usual activities. I hope it’s not a sweeping statement to say, the only thing you’ll need to change is your bra size!

2. Breast Implants Float

Funny... but false!

That old "personal flotation devices" quip is sooooo outdated.

You will not float with breast implants any more than you would without breast implants. Air will make you float, not silicone or saline!

3. Big Boobs Are Just A Trend

Um, I beg to differ.

Most of the women I know with breast implants (and trust me- it's a lot) have dreamt of having their curves increased for years and years.

If you want to increase the size of your bust don't let someone else's idea of what's in style stop you. Who wants to be a sheep anyway? Be a shepherd and carve your own path through life!

4. People Will Judge You If You Get Breast Implants

Ok, this might not be totally false.

Judgment is often a projection of other people’s insecurities... especially where our bodies are concerned. Some people will accuse you of being vain and may not approve of your choices.

On the other hand a lot of people (some that will surprise you) will applaud the bravery and honesty of a woman who chooses to enhance her body.

Brush off any criticism, stand firm and be proud.

One thing is for certain: there are plenty of myths about breast implants that are just totally wrong. I hope I have enlightened you today on some of the more unusual implant myths! :)

Thoughts from Dr. Glenn Davis

Always great to debunk some myths that may be out there on the internet or that you may hear in conversation. Once healing is completed, you will be able to do everything that you did prior to surgery, whether that's sleeping on your stomach or with exercise. M

any of the other common misconceptions, including how the implants will look or feel, are also controllable and part of our discussion in the consultation.
