Surprisingly, a lot of women’s biggest fears when it comes to getting breast implants is not the pain, possibility of scarring, anesthetic or recovery—but whether people will think they’re superficial.
It really sucks that in this century where women have earned the right and the confidence to be anything we want, from doctors and lawyers to politicians and marine scientists; that we still have to worry about being judged for our personal choices.
And... isn’t superficial a state of mind rather than a cup size??
And while I’d like to say that you won’t come across anyone who thinks that breast implants are for plastics, unfortunately, many people still hold cosmetic surgery patients are still in that light.
But if I'm being honest, it doesn't shock me at all. If we're still living in a world where radical churches picket military funerals, being called superficial for having breast implants isn't all that bad, really.
So the main thing you need to ask yourself is how much you care about what people think.
After all, it’s your body and your decision, and only you know all the reasons behind it. And living in a society that constantly piles more and more pressure on women to be everything to everyone, people are all too quick to hand out their judgment and opinions unasked…
But here’s the thing... often our worst critics are ourselves.
Because the reality is, unless you go around singing from the mountain tops that you had breast augmentation surgery (you have every right to do that, by the way), then the chances are that other people won’t even notice—even though you may feel like you’re walking around under a spotlight.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
Well I’m here to tell you that no one can make you feel superficial without your consent. So don’t give it. You know the smart, beautiful, capable, strong woman you are… and that won’t change when you get breast implants.
On the contrary; I’m betting that the confident, happier, bolder version of you will only become more amazing than you already are… and there ain’t nothing superficial about that. :-)
