Breast Men probably isn't going to make it on your Top 10 movie list; but in all honesty, it's a really good movie for women who have or want breast implants to watch.
I first saw it about 6 months before getting my augmentation, and it was really cool knowing about the history of breast enlargement. Several things I learned really surprised me, like:
- The earliest breast implants ever used were made of glass and ivory (crazy!)
- The doctor's names were changed in this movie from Dr. Frank Gerow and Dr. Thomas Cronin to Dr. Saunders and Dr. Larson.
- The first breast implants developed by Dr. Saunders (played by David Schwimmer) were supposed to be filled with saline, but they were switched at the last minute without his blessing to liquid silicone. This is the silicone that caused so many problems when it ruptured.
- The majority of the medical community was completely opposed to the work that Dr. Saunders and Dr. Larson (played by Chris Cooper) were doing with breast implants
The movie walks through the development of the modern day implant, and it doesn't dodge any of the mistakes or misunderstandings the first doctors made. As you can imagine, there were a lot of mistakes, both medically and personally, with how fast the procedure grew in popularity.
Thankfully, David Schwimmer and Chris Cooper do a good job, so it's not painful to watch from an acting stand point. The full movie is available for free right here, or you can buy it from Amazon at the link below. Enjoy!
