How to Not Hate Yourself While Running with Breast Implants

I often hear from ladies who are considering breast implants (or already have them!) that they are concerned about how much their boobs will bounce and chafe while they are running.

A totally legit concern!

Since I'm more of a lifting weights kind of girl, I asked my friend Leslie to help me out today! Leslie is a regular long distance runner who completes several half marathons a year—and she has breast implants!

Jenny Eden: So, there's a rumor going around that running with big boobs can be a bit of a challenge. Obviously the bouncing is a problem, but are there other areas that make it more challenging?

Leslie: Yes! Especially for distance runners, most of us at some point have suffered with a pesky little problem known as “chafing.” It can be incredibly painful, and it almost always leaves some not-so-attractive blisters. :-(

Jenny Eden: Sounds delightful...

Leslie: It's not! :-) And I can tell you from experience that it is much easier to prevent it than to have to treat it after it occurs.

Chafing is most common in areas that are more prone to increased perspiration. Thus, the places where clothing rubs most often—such as the area under the breasts and around the nipples—are key problematic areas when running with big boobs.

Jenny Eden: So you recently ran a full marathon, and I was shocked to hear you say that you didn't have any bouncing or chafing problems. I know there are lots of ladies who will read this that could benefit from your secrets!

Leslie: Yes, I did (finished in 4:42:17, too!), and I'm happy to share what I've learned since going from a 32A to a 32D.

First, you have to lock those girls down.

This may seem intuitive, but the better the bra—which holds your breasts more firmly into position and prevents bouncing and movement—is one of the best ways to prevent skin-on-skin rubbing.

For runners, I would highly recommend the Moving Comfort Urban X bra.

Sometimes women like to double up on sports bras, and this is a good option if you don’t want to dish out the extra cash on some heavy-duty support bras. But it’s important to consider that with added clothing, there could be added friction—which could lead to increased chafing.

Not to mention you already spent a great deal on your new boobs, so you might as well invest in a quality bra (or two) that will keep you comfortable! For ladies with anything bigger than D-Cup, you can't go wrong with the Shock Absorber Bra.

Also, don't forget to lube up!

I'm especially prone to chafing, so I use a product called BodyGlide.

I'll always apply it under my breasts and around my nipples before I start running, and I'll even re-apply in the middle of my run when I run long distance.

So those are my secrets! A proper bra, and a BodyGlide. You won’t always be able to prevent bouncing and chafing completely, but I hope these tips prove helpful!

Jenny Eden: Thank you so much, girl!! It was an honor having you :-)
