The REAL Recovery Tips You'll Want to Read About

You’ll be given a list of instructions from your plastic surgeon of things to do (and not do) after your breast augmentation surgery to ensure you recover well. But there’s also a very real side to recovery and some of these tips (shared from the Bustmob crew and my own experiences) will help you sail through recovery.

Eden Says...Relax

Most importantly, relax!

To be able to relax after your breast augmentation surgery you have to prepare in advance.

I would go so far as to say prepare like you’re expecting a zombie apocalypse! Clean up, stock up, and prepare (for at least the first week) to do very little (and I mean very little) – batten down the hatches for recovery.

Beat the Bloat

You are what you eat. You will want to eat a wholesome diet to beat the bloat in the early days.

Also, make sure you drink lots of water, move around as much as you can (easy does it) and aim for natural approaches to get things moving in the bowel department.

Ice Ice Baby

Sternum swelling sucks! Do check with your plastic surgeon, but lots of women swear by ice packs to reduce swelling.

If you’re not allowed to ice the girls but are suffering with swelling try cold cabbage leaves in your bra (keep replacing them when they get warm!) as they can help with swelling and discomfort.

For skin irritation you can also try cold (keep it in the fridge) aloe vera gel.

T-rex Arms?

Ok, so this is just a little joke that recovery girls have about the limited arm movement you might experience!

Imagine life with little T-rex arms and you’ll understand how you’ll feel after breast implant surgery with limited arms movements.  Prepare for this and have things you’ll need within easy reach.

Un-cap medicine bottles in advance (but keep them out of reach of little hands) and get some bendy straws for your drinks.

Arghhh, My Back (Neck AND Shoulders)

Did you ever make a fort as a kid with the sofa cushions?

Get ready to revisit your youth! Making a pillow fort in your bed will help ease the aches and pains you’re likely to experience in your neck, back and shoulders from sleeping upright after breast augmentation surgery.

You’ll need lots of pillows for this, but try a couple behind your back, one under each arm and one rolled up under your knees.  It’ll feel a bit like a pillow throne!

And definitely try it all out before your breast augmentation surgery as you won’t want to be messing with pillows after.

I also swore by one of those neck pillows you see people using to sleep on planes- trust me, you're going to be sleeping sitting up at first and you'll need the support! AND a heat pad for my back and shoulders (just double check with your plastic surgeon whether they’re okay with having some heat therapy).

If you have kids, you'll want to organize some proper help. Childcare, grandma, summer camp... whatever it is, in those first few days enlist help wherever you can.

And it goes without saying that you should steer clear of ANY housework. Prepare your other half, older kids, friends and family to assist with your usual household duties in the first couple of weeks.

Such a shame that you won't be able to do the dishes straight away!!!

No doubt you’ll come across your own recovery tips along the way. If you’re part of the Bustmob community feel free to chip in and share them!

We can all learn so much from each other and it's great to be prepared so you breeze through recovery :)
